Manuscript collection of Charles Thomas Harbeck, 1732-1915 (bulk 1775-1900).

Collection of papers relating to the U. S. Navy and naval officers. The collection comprises letters, orders, commissions, records of various ships, including the U.S.S. Constitution, and other documents, chiefly dealing with the naval operations of the Revolutionary War and nineteenth century wars, including the War of 1812 and the Civil War. There is also a small group of items concerning the British Navy.

Richard Howe, Earl Howe, was born in London, England, on March 19, 1726, the son of Emanuel Scrope Howe (1699-1735) and Mary Sophia Charlotte von Kielmansegg (1703-1782).
